TKE Iota-Beta Brothers Gathering in Myrtle Beach April 2026 for Golf & Fun

Golf with the brothers … it’s been a minute.

Not since the Andrew Jarzyk Memorial Golf Outing was retired in 2019, an event held in September at Mercer Oaks Golf Course in New Jersey, in honor and memory of Susquehanna University TKE brother Andrew Jarzyk (Class of 2009), Hamilton, NJ, who passed away in 2014. From 2015 to 2019, two to three foursomes of “we older TEKEs” would get together annually to play the Andrew Jarzyk Memorial Golf Outing.

We’re back! So, what happens when you get 12 TKE brothers (1978-1984) together in Myrtle Beach? Sounds like a Thursday Night Party (TNP)!

TKE Once, TKE Twice. Joining in the fun will be Susquehanna University TEKEs Bill Bryson (Brazen), Ben Bugbee, Bob Crider (Crud), Mark Beck (Toronto), Peter Cary (Dad), Peter Engeler (Engie), Jeff Jacobus (Earl), Scott Jeffery (Scrotie), John Lafferty (Laff), Tom McColligan (Kluggs), Nick Miele (Malay), and Rick Wadbrook (Cowboy).

Tom “Kluggs” McColligan, who has resided in Myrtle Beach with his wife for a number of years, is serving as the “official – unofficial” weatherman and tour guide. And Nick “Malay” Miele, our esteemed project leader, issued an executive order in advance of the trip that only Grateful Dead music and/or music by the Jerry Garcia Band will be permitted. Ratified!!

The gang will be staying at the beautiful oceanside Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, April 21-25. In addition to catching up with great friends, sharing tons of laughs, enjoying a beverage and South Carolina’s Lowcountry-inspired food, the fellas will be playing three spectacular, championship golf courses. Wednesday, April 22, we’ll tee off at the River Club, followed by the True Blue Golf Club on April 23, and wrapping up with the Founders Club on Friday. All three courses are within a 15-minute drive from the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort.

We can’t wait!

Fare Thee Well – Ted Sweeney

Edward John “Ted” Sweeney, 63, passed away on February 4, 2026. Born on June 14, 1962, in Montclair, New Jersey, Ted was known for his goofy spirit, loving heart, and endless supply of fun facts—often shared with a Diet Coke in hand.

Ted shared 33 loving years of marriage with his wife, Lynn, with whom he built a wonderful life. He was a proud and deeply loving father to his two sons, Teddy and Matt, who meant everything to him. Whether cheering them on at sporting events, playing video games, or simply spending time together, he treasured being their dad.

He loved hockey and not only played the game with his boys but also coached, sharing his passion and encouragement with young players. Ted also enjoyed boating, spending time with friends at the North East River Yacht Club, and going on bike rides with Lynn along the C&D Canal.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lynn; his sons Teddy and Matt; his daughter-in-law Meghan; his sisters Suzanne and Karen; his brother-in-law Skip; and many extended family members and friends who will miss his playful sense of humor and lighthearted nature. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Brice Sweeney, and his mother, Marie Roche Sweeney.

NOTE: Ted was Susquehanna University Class of 1984.  He was a Phi Mu Delta brother and very close with many TKE brothers and we with him.

Fare Thee Well – Brother Davey Brand

We just recently learned of the 2024 passing of S.U. TKE Iota-Beta Chapter brother David J. “Davey” Brand. Davey passed away April 3, 2024, at age 65. He was Class of 1980, graduating with Bob Crider, Mark Steltz, Tommy Dunbar, Mark Zulli and Chad Spackman.

Davey lived in the TKE house at 301 University Avenue. All remember him as a fine brother, a good dude, he enjoyed a beer and had a quick wit and quirky sense of humor. He was a geology major at Susquehanna University as well as a ROTC member/scholarship recipient.

David served his country honorably 1980-1985 as a member of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, achieving the rank of Captain as well as many other accomplishments as an officer. Following his service to his country, David received an MBA from Boston University, a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, and finally a BSN degree in nursing.

He was married for 33 years, leaving behind his wife, a daughter (married, with granddaughter)
and a son. Fare Thee Well, Brother Davey!

S.U. TKEs and Friends Gather in Philly for Dead & Co. Show

The band Dead & Co. played Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park on July 10, 2022, and a crew of TKE brothers and friends were there to tailgate, catch up on friendships and enjoy a fabulous concert under the stars. Joining the festivities were … Peter Cary, John Lafferty, Nick & Trish Miele, Peter Engeler, Bill Bryson, Dave Walters, Scott Jeffery, and Lisa Huchler and her daughters. Accompanying the adult beverages in the parking lot were birthday cupcakes, as it was the birthday of TKE little sister Lisa “Lucy” Huchler.

James van Riemsdyk 1,000 Game Ceremony

The Boston Bruins honor James van Riemsdyk’s 1,000 games played in the NHL with a pre-game ceremony at TD Garden.

Fare Thee Well Brother Randy Lieberman

We have lost another beloved brother and great friend.  With terrible sadness, we share that Randall Stone Lieberman, aka Randy, the long-time publisher of the Chester County Press and several regional magazines, passed away on Dec. 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  Randy had just turned 62 in November.  Iota-Beta Chapter brother Randy Lieberman attended Susquehanna University from 1980-1984 and will be remembered as a great family man and friend, business and community leader, adventurer and traveler, and with a laugh and a smile that would take over a room.  Fare Thee Well … Brother Randy.

Fare Thee Well Brother Steve Sandler

With heavy hearts, we share the news of the untimely departure of our beloved brother, Steve Sandler (link to Steve’s obituary), on November 7, 2023. Steve leaves behind a legacy that transcends mere words; he was a remarkable individual, cherished for his friendship, intellect, dry sense of humor, athletic prowess, and fierceness as a competitor. In honoring Steve’s memory, we reflect on the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The TKE and Friends website dedicated to the memories and goings on of TKEs, TKE little sisters, and friends of TKE from Iota-Beta Chapter, Susquehanna University, during the years 1978-1984. TKE and Friends began as an idea back in 1991-1992 to establish a periodic gathering to bring together TKEs, TKE little sisters and friends of TKE from that timeframe to reconnect, share memories and have fun.

The sole purpose of the TKE and Friends gathering and this Website is social – to provide an opportunity to bring together friends from bygone days. The TKE and Friends gatherings were and are in no way designed to raise money nor is it an alumni or Susquehanna University sponsored event.

We hope you enjoy the Website and we will continue to add information. Please feel free to contact us with your comments and ideas.
